What does the SVG Optimizer do?
Paste SVG source or open a local .svg file up to 2 MiB. The browser Worker runs SVGO with optional multipass optimization. Compare original and optimized previews and UTF-8 byte sizes before downloading.
When should you use this tool?
Use this tool for vector SVG optimization. Use Image Compressor for JPEG, PNG, or WebP. Preserve originals and test SVGs that rely on external styles, animation, scripts, or font availability.
How do you use it?
- Paste an SVG document or open a local .svg file. DTD declarations are not accepted.
- Choose whether to run multiple passes and select Run.
- Compare the previews and byte sizes, then copy or download the optimized SVG.
Worked example
Remove redundant editor markup
Input
<svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" viewBox="0 0 10 10"><!-- editor note --><rect width="10" height="10" fill="#0000ff"/></svg>Output
<svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" viewBox="0 0 10 10"><path fill="#00f" d="M0 0h10v10H0z"/></svg>SVGO can remove comments, shorten colors, and rewrite shapes. Exact serialized output depends on the adopted engine version.
Common errors and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Optimization reports invalid XML. | Tags are unbalanced, the root is not SVG, or a DTD is present. | Supply a well-formed SVG document without a DTD. |
| The result is not smaller or looks different. | Already optimized files offer little savings; fonts and external dependencies can affect display. | Compare the result in its final application and keep the original when required. |
Supported behavior and limitations
Optimization is not sanitization and does not establish that downloaded SVG is safe in other contexts. Source is previewed as an image, never injected as live page markup. IDs are preserved, but CSS, scripts, fonts, animation, and external references still require review in the target application.

Frequently asked questions about SVG Optimizer
Is my input uploaded?
No. Processing happens in a browser Worker. Engine files load from this website; tool input, output, and filenames are not sent to a processing API.
Do I need an account or API key?
No account, API key, or backend processing service is needed.
How do I save a result?
Review the result, then use the Copy or Download control available for that output. Modifying input clears stale results.
What are the limits?
Optimization is not sanitization and does not establish that downloaded SVG is safe in other contexts. Source is previewed as an image, never injected as live page markup. IDs are preserved, but CSS, scripts, fonts, animation, and external references still require review in the target application.
What changed?
Added local processing, explicit size limits, cancellation, worked examples, error explanations, and downloadable results.
