How to create a ZIP and extract selected files in your browser

Published and checked · Written by KitLumi Engineering

Choose files to create a ZIP, or inspect one local ZIP and select entries to extract. Files stay in a browser Worker. Input is limited to 50 MiB and 200 entries; declared and actual extracted data are capped at 100 MiB.

Open the free tool →

How do you do it?

  1. Choose Create ZIP and select local files, or choose Inspect ZIP and select exactly one archive.
  2. Select Run. In inspection mode, review entry names and sizes, select files, then choose Extract selected files.
  3. Download the generated ZIP or each selected extracted file. Clear the workspace when finished.

Archive two local text files

An empty file is a valid archive entry. Inspection lists sizes without inflating file contents; extraction processes selected entries only.

Input:
hello.txt: Hello
empty.txt: (empty file)

Output:
ZIP entries:
hello.txt — 5 bytes
empty.txt — 0 bytes

When is this workflow useful?

Use this tool for small local file bundles and selective extraction. Use desktop archiving software for large, encrypted, multi-volume, or ZIP64 archives. It does not write extracted paths directly to your filesystem.

What should you check before relying on the result?

Supports standard Store and Deflate ZIP entries. Encrypted, ZIP64, split archives and parent-traversal paths are rejected. Legacy non-UTF-8 filenames may display differently; prefer UTF-8 names. Downloads use the final filename, so folder hierarchy is shown in the list but not recreated on disk. Same-named input files must be renamed before packing.

What can go wrong?

ProblemWhat to try
The archive is rejected before extraction. The file uses encryption, ZIP64, a split archive, unsupported compression, invalid headers, duplicate paths, or too many entries. Export a standard single-volume ZIP using Store or Deflate; keep it within the displayed limits.
Extraction fails with a size or integrity error.Declared expansion exceeds 100 MiB, actual output exceeds the validated size, or a selected entry fails CRC validation. Use a smaller intact archive and compare it with the source; corrupted data is not offered for download.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to upload data or sign in?

No. Processing runs in the current browser. This site serves the page and required static engine assets.

Why does the result disappear after I edit the input?

The tool clears stale output so a previous result cannot be mistaken for the new one. Run again after changing input or settings.
